Enrichment at the Academy offers extra-curricular opportunities for students after school and on the weekends. These programs are open to the public.

Bulldog Athletic Programs are run by Norfolk Academy varsity coaches, and varsity players and other coaches are on hand to help the students learn basic skills.

  • Basketball for Girls

    All levels are welcome, whether you’re new to the game or have experience playing before.  We will work on fundamentals from ball-handing, layups, and shooting to defensive skills like stance, movement, rebounding, and much more.  Look forward to seeing you out on the court!

  • Bulldog Swim Team

    The six-week program is designed to prepare competitive swimmers. Participants must be able to complete 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke in order to get the most out of this experience. Emphasis will be placed on proper stroke mechanics for each of the four competitive strokes – freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke. Stroke drills, proper race strategies, and basic training techniques will be introduced according to the swimmer’s age and abilities.

  • Hip Hop Dance

    Personal Kinetic is a dance curriculum created by Joel Casanova that coaches students in five fundamental aspects of movement: Musicality, Diversity, Expression, Freestyle, and Choreography. He designed this curriculum so students can intentionally build their personal style of movement and eventually create choreography in that style. Along side of this program, HipHop choreography will be learned in order to implement the movement concepts students learn in class.

    About the instructor:   Joél is a HipHop instructor and owner of BeatHunter Dance with 10 years experience between dance competitions, teaching, and freelance choreography. By the age of 16, he was teaching his peers and choreographing at a pre-professional level. He has been teaching children, adolescents, and adults in Hampton Roads since 2015. 
  • Karate Dojo

    WELCOME TO GENBU KAI OF VIRGINIA. To share the invaluable teachings, principles, and traditions of the art of Karate-Do.Through our teachings we instill good work ethic, positive attitude, a resilient mind and spirit, along with building a strong physical body. Our main goal is to develop good character and to become the best version of ourselves. Any student who is enrolled at Norfolk Academy karate class can also attend classes at the main dojo at no additional cost. Interested parents /students please see Sensei.

    What to wear: For the first two weeks, students will wear sweatpants and a t-shirt. After that, students wear their uniform or "Gi". 
  • Soccer Shots

    Soccer Shots is a uniquely designed, curriculum based program that will introduce all children to soccer in a fun, safe and controlled environment. Each week, we offer hour long soccer sessions that teach and emphasize a new skill, fun game and healthy competition to all children enrolled. Our program focuses on the individual development of each child within the team setting. We emphasize character forming lessons such as; sportsmanship, teamwork, respect and leadership through all our fun games, scoring activities and our scrimmage time.

    Grades: 1-3

  • Intro to 3D Design

    Come increase your 3D design knowledge and print your own 3D objects.  Students will expand their skills by customizing objects that they will print to bring home.  Then they will design their own unique creations to print.

  • Intro to Laser Cutting

    Students will be introduced to how a laser cutter works, from creating a design to powering the laser.  We will use Inkscape software to customize object that students will bring home. Students will then expand their skills by designing their own unique objects.

  • Budding Poets

    Let's learn how to write poetry of all of types. Students will be introduced to various types of poetry including diamontes, cinquains, couplets, acrostics, haiku, and quatrains.  Students will do a journal and then publish with a coffeehouse presentation at end of last class.

  • Flower Power

    With the help of a certified floral designer, participants will create a small floral arrangement using real flowers and a floral head crown using artificial flowers.  The art of floral arranging will be discussed and participants will learn the botanical names of each of the flowers used.

  • Illuminated Poetry

    Write your own poem and illustrate it, too, in an afternoon of creative inspiration! Join Mrs. Charlotte Zito, Upper School English teacher and student publications adviser, for a session of poetry writing and illustration. Paper, pens, art supplies, and a snack will be provided.

  • Sewing

    Explore the world of sewing with an 6 week class that will teach young students how to use a sewing machine to create many different projects. Students will learn about different fabrics, how to use them and how to construct their projects. Sewing machines will be provided.

  • Stitch It!

    Students will learn cross stitch basics including terminology, how to sew on a button, use an embroidery hoop, and create cross stitch patterns.  Student will also learn and use different types of stitches when working on their projects.  Students will design their own original patterns to create a portrait of themselves, family, or a pet and more.
