Reflections on Learning
My best classroom experience was actually not on the Norfolk Academy campus, but in Portugal at Ms. Sheldon’s archaeological field school. Literally uncovering the past and learning so much more about who the Romans actually were outside of a traditional classroom environment is an experience I will never forget.
Inspirational Teacher Coach Coach McMahon had the biggest impact on me as a person. In the Fellows program, he constantly pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me that there isn’t just one way to be a leader.
The Academy Difference This school taught me how to respectfully engage in difficult topics with people who might not have the same views as me. The emphasis on respectful discourse and creating a positive, open classroom environment was integral to my development as a leader.
I think I want to major in classics and anthropology. The robust classical education that I received here and the amazing, continued advice from Mrs. Priddy and Ms. Sheldon nurtured my love for all things Roman and Greek.
The thing that most makes me a Bulldog is…my ability to operate outside of my comfort zone.
