How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
This is my 3rd year at Norfolk Academy.
Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
I remember loving everything about Roman history when I was growing up. I just could not get enough. The culture, the military, and the politics fascinated me! I want to pass that passion on to my students!
What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
Teaching and coaching. I spent far too many years cooped up in libraries during my graduate years, and NA gives me the opportunity to get back outside and do more of the things that I love. I grew up playing lacrosse and football, and some of my fondest memories are times spent playing sports in middle school and high school.
Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...the learning does not stop in the classroom. I find that some of the best connections that I make with students are outside of my subject. While I love Latin and thoroughly love teaching Latin, I would not consider myself a “Latin” teacher at NA. We are all one big family, and I love spending time with my students, watching them play sports, and learning what their passions are.
What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
I love getting outside whenever I can. Working around the house, in my garage, or in the yard always makes me happy. When it is time to relax, you can find me sitting in a chair by the beach!
Last book read:
A Dance with Dragons by George R. R. Martin
A movie is being made about your life. Whom would they cast to play you?
Fun fact your students might not know about you/might find surprising:
I love cooking just as much as I love Latin!
“When I grow up, I want to be…”
...the owner of a food truck!
