How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
This is my 12th year at Norfolk Academy.

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
For me, dance has always felt generational. There’s a “passed down” sense about it that gets built with the teacher/student relationship. You can trace the roots of many great dancers to a foundation given to them by a handful of teachers. I was blessed to have great teachers help me build my foundation and the desire to give that to the next generation of students has always been exhilarating!

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
There’s a genuineness here about the task of educating the whole person—mind, body, and character—and that extends from the classroom, to the field, to the stage!

Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...of the blend of professional educators. The diversity of knowledge that our faculty has is quite astounding!

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
Gardening! I have a rose garden, a vegetable garden, and a flower garden. I also enjoy hiking and sightseeing the natural beauties of our country. My favorite hike so far was in Glacier National Park.

Last book read:
A Body of Work: Dancing to the Edge and Back, an autobiography by David Hallberg, which tells his story of returning to the stage after an injury.

Favorite food?
I love grilled food—especially if my husband cooks it! And I could always be talked into a really good burger with a unique flair to it!

A movie is being made about your life. Whom would they cast to play you?
I would love for it to be Ginger Rogers—I grew up watching her movies—and maybe it could be set in the early 40s because of the fashion!

Fun fact your students might not know about you/might find surprising:
I love board games: Catan, X-wing Miniatures, Risk…

“When I grow up, I want to be…”
...a world traveler…with an emphasis on hiking and watching good ballet!
