How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
I graduated from Norfolk Academy in 2003 and this is my first year as a faculty member.

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
The educators in my life have impacted me significantly, and I would love to have even a fraction of that positive influence on others. In my opinion, the best feelings in the world are (in no particular order) summer vacation, a solid field hockey drive, and the light-bulb moment when a student understands a new concept. This was true even when I was in the Coast Guard; teaching, coaching, and learning were my favorite aspects of the job.

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
This is a pretty difficult question for me, as I have a long list of reasons as to why I’m excited to be home. On a personal level, I’m most excited to be among family and my former coaches/teachers again. As a teacher, I’m most excited to be back in a world with a functioning honor system.

Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...we are a lifelong community.

Last book read:
Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John Edward Douglas. (It’s much better than the series that recently came out based upon it!)

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
I enjoy playing field hockey and soccer, and I love to spend time with my husband and two beautiful dogs, Arya and Brownie. We read and watch a lot of Netflix together (although the dogs typically fall asleep).

Favorite food?
Pepperoni Pizza!

A movie is being made about your life. Who would they cast to play you?
Ellie Kemper

Fun fact your students might find surprising:
My favorite holiday is NA Field Day!

“When I grow up, I want to be…”
...by day, a member of the Women’s National Field Hockey Team. By night, a homicide detective with the FBI who also gets a solid 8 hours of sleep on a daily basis.
