How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
This is my 17th year at Norfolk Academy.

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
I had some amazing educators who brought out my love for science and I wanted to have that same impact on others. I love this age group and content. Being a teacher is part of who I am. Never have I felt that what I am doing is a job. I truly believe that being an educator is a calling.

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
Family. Everything I love about Norfolk Academy stems from the way we treat one another as family.

Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...we truly are a community who takes care of each other. My students WANT to spend time with me and their other teachers. There aren’t many places where that is the norm.

Last book read:
Alex and Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
I enjoy working in my yard and gardening. I love to cook and eat dinner as a family. Going to the beach is my favorite place to relax and unwind. Of course I love spending time with my husband, two kids, and our dog, Cooper.

Favorite food?
My mom’s pot roast and homemade mashed potatoes is the most wonderful food in the world. Nothing beats cooking from the midwest.

A movie is being made about your life. Who would they cast to play you?
Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus!

Fun fact your students might not know about you/might find surprising:
I witnessed a robbery at a jewelry store when I was in 8th grade!

“When I grow up, I want to be…”
...a meteorologist.
