How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
I have been at Norfolk Academy for five years.
Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
Trying to figure out how to reach a student is like a puzzle: it is challenging, it is ever-changing, and it is extremely rewarding when you find success!
What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
Working with our middle school students who are both goofy and grown-up; they represent the best of children and adults.
Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...it emphasizes the importance of ethics as well as academics. In the classroom, on the stage, on the field, or on a bus to community service, every member of this community reminds our students of the importance of character.
What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
I love to cook, and (as a result) I love to run, preferably in First Landing State Park.
Last book read:
I am currently reading Muriel Barbery’s The Elegance of the Hedgehog based on a former student’s suggestion. Can we talk podcasts here, too? So many good ones.
A movie is being made about your life. Who would they cast to play you?
Reese Witherspoon. (I think we’d be friends if we met.)
Fun fact your students might not know about you/might find surprising:
I have been swimming in the White House pool and met President George H. W. Bush.
“When I grow up, I want to be…”
...an organic farmer. Or a chef. Maybe both?
