Middle School students participated in a spring clean-up of Cavalry Cemetery, the historic burial ground for Norfolk's African-American citizens from 1877 to the mid-1970s. For nearly a century, the 68-acre cemetery was the only burial option for African-Americans in the city, a situation that reflected segregation in Virginia and throughout the South. The work of the students as they raked and spread mulch was captured by Channel 13 News. Watch the news segment.
