Cooper Librarian Creates Vlog Series for Fifth Grade Students

In an effort to provide additional reading support for the fifth grade classes, Lower School librarian, Mrs. Madelyn Kresinske, started a video blog (vlog) series she shares with the fifth grade faculty members to show to their classes.

Created on her iPhone using iMovie and an app called Clips, “Books for Bulldogs with Mrs. K” is a trendy medium that engages the students in an interactive fashion. In each video, Mrs. Kresinske gives her book recommendations and takes students on a journey related to the time of year, the novels she recommends, or the fifth grade lesson plans.

Prior to winter break, her vlog challenged the students to write haikus, featured two book recommendations, showcased gingerbread house-making and a piano debut, as well as a tour of the holiday lights at the Botanical Gardens.

Even though it was optional to participate, 28 students submitted holiday haikus. Holidays, a favorite tradition, and general winter themes were the different prompt options.

“A few students went above and beyond and wrote up to six different haikus,” said Mrs. Kresinske. “They were really impressive, and I was thrilled to see so many students partake in the challenge.”

Mrs. Kresinske awarded goodie bags to the students who participated as a token of appreciation. Here are a few examples of the haikus submitted:

The fifth graders are looking forward to their next vlog adventure!
