How long have you been at Norfolk Academy?
This is my eighth year at Norfolk Academy

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
My mother taught Spanish (she retired from teaching at Kellam H.S.) for 30 years. My older sister is a Spanish teacher. I majored in Spanish and played soccer at Colgate. By my second year at Colgate, I figured that teaching Spanish and coaching soccer was the route I wanted to take because it enabled me to do the two things that I love!

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
In my 24 years of teaching, I have taught in several different schools. Norfolk Academy truly adheres to and practices its philosophy: “to assist its students to develop maturity of mind, body, and character.” It’s an incredible place to work.

Norfolk Academy is unique because…
...everyone is encouraged to be the best that he or she can be on a daily basis. We trust that we are all on this journey of growth together and we support one another when the chips are down. My experience with cancer last year is a testament to the love and support that this community gives its members when times are tough. Norfolk Academy is truly unique in its care for others.

Last book read:
The Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?

I love watching my children play sports and watching sports on tv. My favorite teams are Auburn football (my husband’s alma mater) and Indiana basketball (my parents’ alma mater). I also love watching ice hockey as well as the championship series of just about any other sport!

Favorite food?
Spanish paella!

A movie is being made about your life. Who would they cast to play you?
Sarah Jessica Parker, for sure!

Fun fact your students might not know about you/might find surprising:
Two friends and I won first place in our high school lip-sync contest my senior year. We lip-synced to Bobbi Brown’s "
My Prerogative". I’m pretty sure that’s why I was voted “Best All Around” in my class that year!

“When I grow up, I want to be…”
...a sports anchor for my own sports channel for women called ESPHens!
