The YWCA South Hampton Roads, the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization in the world, seeks a Public Relations and Marketing Intern to work within the marketing and development department in its downtown Norfolk office.
CONTEXT OF THE POSITION
The Public Relations and Marketing Intern will assist YWCA staff with social media, blog posts and marketing collateral projects. The qualified candidate will report to the Development Director and work closely with the Development and Marketing Associate.
Essential functions may include:
- Assist with the planning and marketing of YWCA events in Norfolk.
- Help gather content and create posts for social media including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Knowledge of HootSuite is preferred.
- Working with the Development department to develop story ideas for the six pillar programs of the YWCA.
- Under supervision, conduct background research on the history of the YWCA.
- Assist in the creation of marketing collateral for clients of the YWCA.
- Aid in executing plans to promote YWCA programs and initiatives.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Successful candidate must be working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree and possess a background in marketing, communications, and/or public relations or a related field. The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills, knowledge of social media platforms and an interest in public relations and brand awareness. Self-initiative, creativity, the ability to work independently, as well as with a team, and excellent written and oral communication skills are required. We seek a committed, creative thinker who is interested in learning about the YWCA South Hampton Roads and its mission to eliminate racism and empower women.
This summer internship is open to college-age alumni with reliable transportation and will be for 20 to 30 hours per week, with availability for flexible schedules. Location: Norfolk office, with some field work in the region. This is an unpaid internship. Exact start and end dates are negotiable, but applicants should be available to begin the internship by early May.
