WTKR-TV profiled Juliet Lancey '20 during a news broadcast Tuesday night, recognizing her years of volunteering at Tidewater Park Elementary School.
Juliet has spent time at Tidewater Park in Norfolk on Mondays throughout her Upper School career. She teaches ballet to aspiring young children, many of whom she met through Norfolk Academy’s Literacy Fellows. That program strives to advance literacy as a way to break cycles of poverty. Students collaborate with outside organizations, including the Tidewater Park unit of the Boys & Girls Club.
WTKR surprised Juliet with a People Taking Action award and a $300 gift card from Southern Bank. She wanted to outfit children with leotards and ballet shoes, but the program has no money, the news segment said. Juliet had been considering taking money out of her college savings fund.
“It's really exciting to see them grow and develop as artists and have a space to do that in," Juliet said in the segment.
Congratulations to Juliet! And thank you to WTKR for recognizing her and our Literacy Fellows Program!
