Kline

Welcome Mary Kline, our new Middle School Latin Teacher. Ms. Kline, who also coaches in the swim program, earned a Bachelor's degree in Classics from Colgate University, where she competed with the Swim & Dive team. After completing some graduate work in Latin and ancient Greek, she studied second language acquisition and curriculum design while earning a Master's in Teaching from the School of International Training. Most of her teaching career has been spent at a boarding school in New England and an independent day school in Maryland.

Why did you want to become a teacher?
There are a lot of teachers/coaches in my family, so I had a bit of an inside look by hearing the passion and enthusiasm in their stories. My high school Latin and Spanish teachers were the people who helped me discover my propensity for languages and examining cultures, and my journey began!

What excites you about Norfolk Academy?
I'm new to the area, but I had heard about NA's prowess in athletics. As I asked around, I quickly learned of the longevity, traditions, and commitment to strong academics. What really sold me, however, was the people, and the sense of community, which I felt from the moment I stepped onto campus the first time. This is the real magic, in my opinion.

What's one fun fact about you students might find interesting?
I come from a really big family; I have 29 first cousins!
