Welcome Our New Faculty: Jessica Chevon

Welcome Jessica Chevon to both the Middle and Upper School as an Art Teacher! Chevon is an educator and artist with more than a decade of experience teaching visual art. She holds degrees in Fine Arts and Art Education from Old Dominion University and previously taught art at Cox High School in Virginia Beach, where she also served as Department Chair and National Art Honors Society Sponsor. She has been recognized with honors including Teacher of the Year, Holocaust Educator of the Year, and Virginia Secondary Art Educator of the Year.

Why teach?
I chose a career in education because art was always the place where I felt most confident and connected. My favorite class in school was art, and my high school art teacher, Mr. Faust, had a huge impact on my life. He was a mentor who encouraged me creatively and personally, and it was during that time that I realized I wanted to become an art educator myself. Teaching art is my purpose; I love creating a nurturing space that cultivates good conversation and positive energy.

Why NA?
What excites me most about working at Norfolk Academy is becoming part of a community that really feels like family. I’m excited to collaborate with passionate educators, build meaningful relationships with students, and contribute to a culture that encourages curiosity, creativity, and character. I also love that Norfolk Academy is so supportive of the arts!

Fun Fact?
I am dear friends with the owner of the house I grew up in and often go home to Texas and get sleep in my old bedroom and cook in my grandma's kitchen. It is the greatest blessing and I love to tell the story.
