Welcome Our New Faculty: Eliot Weinstein

Welcome Chemistry and Physics Teacher Eliot Weinstein to the Bulldog family! Mr. Weinstein attended Bucknell University, where he studied chemistry and music and ran Division I Track and Field; he will also coach that sport at NA. He started his career in informal education, focusing on youth leadership and development. He spent several summers running teen service learning programs to Nicaragua, Costa Rica and New Orleans. After moving to Virginia, he earned his Master's of Education degree from Old Dominion University and then spent 14 years teaching chemistry and physics at Cox High School in Virginia Beach, where he was also the head coach of the Track and Field program, Film Festival Director, and co-led the Guitar Club.

What excites you about Norfolk Academy?
I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of teens and share my love for chemistry and physics. Really, I wanted to make these subjects accessible and understandable for everyone and combine my degree in chemistry with my early career in informal education. When I pursued my MSEd, I knew secondary education was the place for me - I wanted to work with teens and young adults, helping prepare them to work through real world challenges using the skill sets they learn in my classroom.

What's one fun fact about you students might find interesting?
I am so excited to be part of the Norfolk Academy community. It's clear to me that the Bulldog family is strong, committed to excellence, and very supportive of each other, students and faculty alike. I am excited to lean into the amazing resources Norfolk Academy offers to enhance my labs, hands on learning experiences, and overall quality of hard science education for our students.
