Hollowell

Norfolk Academy works to instill in students the importance of service, especially to those in need.

On January 14, WAVY-TV highlighted Bray Hollowell '20 on an evening newscast for coming to the aid of a woman severely injured during a crash on Interstate-64 in December 2019.

The crash involved 75 vehicles, including Hollowell's and another with Chesapeake resident Wendi Wallach inside. Hollowell was not injured, but when he got out of his car, he could hear Wallach screaming. He rushed over and was able to keep her conscious until rescue crews arrived and cut her out of her vehicle.

Wallach lost her leg but not her life.

“He really is my hero,” Wallach said of Hollowell.

The two reunited recently, for the first time since the crash. To see WAVY's full report, watch on their website
