Leading up to Veterans Day on November 11, both Middle and Upper School heard from service members who talked about what students can do to support the military.
Rear Admiral Chris Murray, a decorated veteran who served as a commanding officer and later commanded the Naval Safety Center among many roles, spoke to the Upper School on November 7 about successful servant leadership. Understanding and connecting with those around you is “the secret ingredient that makes a good team," he said.
One day earlier, CDR Ben Orloff, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy who has more than 2,200 flight hours in his decorated career, told the Middle School that there are many ways to thank those who serve: simply saying thank you, cheering at Veterans Day parades, and volunteering at veterans organizations among them. But the biggest thing students can do is become engaged citizen-scholars, he said. Study hard, learn how the military and government work, and get involved.
Lower School also took in lessons that paid respect to the military. Among them, first graders wrote letters thanking those who have served or are serving.
