Seminar Day

Seminar Day gives Upper School students the chance to learn from community leaders who are making a positive impact and consider how they themselves can make a difference.

Moderated by the UNITiD Club President Areen Syed '24, this year's theme, NA Alumnae in the Workplace, brought three successful graduates back to campus to discuss their careers and how Norfolk Academy started them on their paths. After their panel, students gathered in advisory groups to talk in depth about the messages they heard.

Summer Kassir Haltli '01 is a Principal at FCP, a real estate investment firm that owns apartment buildings across the country. She helped add solar energy to some of her properties and partnered with a nonprofit to offer childcare at others.

“I try to use my business skills to do good," said Haltli, who graduated from the University of Virginia and then UVA's Darden School of Business.

Dominique Manuel '16 graduated from Amherst College before earning a Master of Library and Information Science degree from San Jose State University. She is now the Digital Asset Manager at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC. Her advice: Be curious, don't be afraid to be ambitious, and build relationships.

“A little kindness goes a really long way," she said.

Kate Anderson '18 graduated from Boston University and then returned home to be a News Producer for WVEC-TV. She recently moved back north to New York City, where she is freelance writing and working in sketch comedy. She participated in fine arts and athletics at NA and was one of the first Literacy Fellows. Recognize and use your strengths, she told students. And give back.

“If you are in a position to help others, then help others," she said.
