Congratulations to teacher-coach Evan Mitchell, this year's Wallace Honoree for Distinguished Teaching!

Named after the legendary Diane Wallace, who taught fourth grade boys at Norfolk Academy for 53 years, the award fosters teaching growth and rewards faculty members who demonstrate her devotion.

Mitchell joined the NA family in 2020. He teaches Spanish in the Middle and Upper schools and serves as Assistant Director of the Batten Leadership Program's Global Affairs Fellows. He also serves as an assistant coach for varsity baseball and JV boys basketball and is a faculty advisor for several clubs.

In announcing the award, Head of School Travis Larrabee observed that Mr. Mitchell “creates a classroom environment and culture that is inclusive, interactive, positive, and engaging. Through work in the classroom, play on the court and diamond, and service to communities in need, he continually seeks to inspire students to become the best versions of themselves in all aspects of their lives."

The inaugural award was given in 2022 to teacher-coach and Breakthrough at Norfolk Academy Director Reggie Cole.
