Several Norfolk Academy student-athletes and teams earned medals over the weekend of February 16-17.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was varsity boys swimming, which earned second place at the VISAA state meet in Christiansburg. In addition, the 200 and 400 free relay teams won state championships. The 200 team was Richard Hope '24, Carter Whetstine '24, Spencer Thompson '25, and Blaise Van Slyke '25. The 400 team was Whetstine, Thompson, Van Slyke, and Jude Carroll '25.
Girls indoor track earned fourth place at its state meet in Richmond. Taylor Kulow '27 was a state champion in the high jump and the VISAA Field MVP.
Wrestling finished seventh out of 30 schools at its state meet in McLean. Tucker Gaddy '24, Sam Tignor '24, and Kaleb Gibson '25 all finished third in their respective weight classes, earning them spots in a national prep competition.
Girls swimming took ninth place at the state meet, with Sofia Kohler '25 taking all-state honors.
Boys indoor track also finished ninth at its state meet.
All these accolades are in addition to honors each team achieved at the conference level. Norfolk Academy won four TCIS championships this winter: Girls indoor track, boys indoor track, girls swimming, and boys swimming. More individual honors will be announced in late February and into March.
