Students gave back to the outside community in a myriad of ways during Holiday Break.
Starting just after the final school bell of 2021 rang on December 17, and continuing throughout the break, students across all three divisions performed acts of community engagement.
Sixth graders began the break by loading Teacher-Coach Jason Kastrounis' car with the many blankets that they collected for residents of Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital in Norfolk.
Shortly before Christmas, many Academy students donated their time as the school hosted the Special Olympics Area 2 Holiday Party. The event, which was held entirely outside, had a strong turnout. Students participated in a variety of activities with the Special Olympics athletes.
Also just before Christmas, Olivia Galiotos ‘22 and AC Perry ‘22, Global Affairs Fellows in our Batten Leadership Program, donated gifts, uplifting the spirits of a migrant farmer family on the Eastern Shore. Olivia and AC coordinated the drive with help from the Global Affairs Fellows, who seek to make the world a more peaceful and just place.
And these are just a few of the service projects students performed this holiday season.
