The first Perrel Art Gallery exhibit of this school year opens on Halloween, and it will be quite a treat: A large mural created by 60 Upper School Art students.

As this year's theme on campus is the Year of Understanding, the opening gallery is titled Understanding I: Writing on the Wall. In their work, the students explore the desire to understand aspects of our social, natural, and psychological worlds.

Students have spent considerable time in the early part of the school year getting the mural ready. They learned from Nico Cathcart, a renowned muralist based in Richmond, who drove south to NA multiple times. They then gradually built up layers for the collaborative montage-style mural. Art 1, 2, and 3 students contributed.

All are welcome to attend the opening reception for the exhibit at 5:30 p.m. on October 30. This event is free. The NA Jazz Band will perform and refreshments will be served.

The exhibit will then open to students and classes the following morning. It will remain up through December 20. Parents, grandparents, alumni, and all in the general public are welcome to stop by the gallery after school when doors are open.
