Spring Athletics Recap: State Champions and a Host of Other Successes

Norfolk Academy closed the 2024-25 athletics calendar strong, earning two state titles during the spring season and gaining respect from opponents through good sportsmanship along the way.

Days before he graduated, Chance Stuart won a gold medal in the shot put at the VISAA Track and Field state championships. On the girls side, Taylor Kulow won a gold in the high jump.

At a year-end celebration, Director of Athletics Chad Byler gave an anecdote from this spring that embodies the athletics program's goal to instill high moral character in each and every student-athlete. When varsity baseball player Peter Galiotos, a 2025 graduate, learned that an opponent had recently lost a loved one, he got the Bulldogs to tip their caps to and applaud that opponent as he stepped to the plate as a gesture of support. The opponent was so touched he sent a thank you note that night.

“These are the moments that define us, not just as athletes but as human beings," Byler said. “Today we salute all of you who displayed sportsmanship, leadership, and empathy. This is the kind of service we want to uplift, because it makes our community and our world a better place."
