WVEC-TV recently honored girls soccer captain Maria Delyannis as its Athlete of the Week.
Delyannis made the NA varsity team as an eighth grader, earned her way into the starting lineup, and led the team in scoring. She hasn't let up, leading the Bulldogs in scoring every year since.
She's one of the most prolific scorers in NA history and top players in all of Virginia. She will compete in college at West Virginia University.
Delyannis also embraces her responsibilities as a captain. What drives her is her goal of helping the Bulldogs earn a state title.
NA has finished second in the state three times in Delyannis' time at the school.
“It’s not just about scoring,” Delyannis said. “It’s about winning.”
