Congratulations to Rohith '28, who on February 10 won the WHRO regional Spelling Bee!

Rohith beat out dozens of other outstanding spellers to earn the regional crown. This is his second straight title in the WHRO bee.

With the victory, Rohith again advances to national Bee Week, which will be held in late May in Maryland. The Scripps National Spelling Bee champion will be crowned at this event, which is nationally televised. Last year, Rohith spelled several words correctly at the national competition, advancing to the semifinals and just missing the final round.

Because other bees are still going on around the country, WHRO cannot yet broadcast its competition. It is scheduled to air in April.

Rohith has won three straight Norfolk Academy spelling bees. In January, he needed 18 rounds to outlast an outstanding group of NA spellers.

All that success comes from hard work. Rohith said he practices for about four hours each weekday and six to seven hours during weekends. He does give himself a break from time to time to avoid burnout.

In addition to mastering the spelling of many difficult words in the English language, Rohith analyzes the words, thinking through origins and more.

He describes the feeling of emerging victorious with a good spelling word: “Euphoria."

Great job, Rohith!
