Rob Reis, Parent '25 and '20, On The Virtues Of NA's Career Connections Program

This past week Hanbury Norfolk hosted the final of four week-long summer internships through the Norfolk Academy Alumni Career Connections Program. The Program's goal is to connect current students and young alumni with alumni and Academy friends already established in the workforce, providing Upper School students with the opportunity to pursue genuine interests beyond the curricular offerings at NA, and offer young alumni in college the chance to gain insight into career opportunities and first-job prospects.

Participating in the program every summer since 2012 Hanbury has become a popular choice. The interns are introduced to the design and project process, are given an overview of the business of architecture, explore the tools and programs that we use, attend project meetings, visit local projects, shadow designers at work, and participate in the firm gatherings and events taking place while they’re with us.

It’s amazing every year to see the way the students contribute as they listen in on project team meetings and discussions, carry out research assignments, and jump into tasks with boundless energy. It’s the questions they ask though that not only grab our attention but sometimes cause us to pause and if not reconsider something, enjoy their perspective and optimistic exuberance.
