Middle School students both heard and learned from the Excelsis Percussion Group when that quartet visited campus on January 17.

Based in New York City, Excelsis is an international quartet billed as one of the most innovative and exciting percussion ensembles around. An all-female group whose members come from countries around the world, Excelsis has been featured on NPR and performed and taught around the United States.

They did not disappoint, giving students a taste of the many different forms music can take. Following a performance for the Middle School that included both group and solo songs, the members led a lesson for students interested in band and orchestra.

Their visit was part of Norfolk Academy's partnership with the Virginia Arts Festival.
