Opening Chapels Explore Importance of Inquiry

This year's theme on campus is the Year of Inquiry, and as such, Head of School Travis Larrabee led opening Chapels in all three divisions, teaching about that word and its importance.

Inquiry has three components, he said: Humility, curiosity, and courage. Ultimately, these qualities allow young people - all of us really - to let their ideas blossom.

“Inquiry is not just about what happens in the classroom," he said. “It's a way of approaching your life."

Mr. Larrabee also worked in references to age-appropriate figures who displayed humility, curiosity, and courage. For instance, as he spoke to the Lower School in Johnson Theater, he brought up great questions asked by Winnie the Pooh, Wilbur from Charlotte's Web, and Dory from Finding Nemo. Older students heard about George Washington, Galileo Galilei, and NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson, among others.

“Let's make this a year where curiosity shines," he said. “Where our ideas can be given the chance to grow."
