Awards

The Norfolk Sports Club on February 27 honored juniors Brooke Bettencourt and Anne Earp for outstanding success during their 2022 athletic seasons.

Bettencourt, who helped the Bulldogs reach the state final in field hockey, was named Outstanding Metro Scholastic Field Hockey Player of the Year. Earp, who finished runner-up at the state cross country meet in November, was named Outstanding Metro Scholastic Girls Cross Country Runner.

Founded in 1944, the Norfolk Sports Club recognizes outstanding athletes from throughout the Hampton Roads region. It presents a total of 21 metropolitan scholastic awards throughout the year at its luncheon meetings. These awards are given for every varsity sport. A trophy case is maintained at the Norfolk Scope, which displays awards and recognizes the recipients.

Bettencourt was one of only three Virginians named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American teams after last season. She led the Bulldogs to a 20-3 season and final rankings of fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region and 17th in the nation. She earned a host of other awards, including first-team all-Tidewater from The Virginian-Pilot.

She also earned academic all-American honors from the NFHCA. Accomplished in multiple sports, she also helped the girls indoor track team win the VISAA state title over the winter. She is playing lacrosse in the spring.

Earp helped the Bulldogs earn second place at the November VISAA state meet. She was the individual TCIS conference champion, helped NA win that title. She was an all-state and all-conference honoree and named team Most Valuable Player.

She also helped the state champion winter track team and is competing in track in the spring.

Congratulations to both Brooke and Anne!
