Norfolk Academy won first in the state for the Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science (TEAMS), and NA teams held six of the top nine spots in a total field of 20 teams in Virginia.
The team that won first was composed entirely of 11th graders:
- Micah Baum
- Quinn Carroll
- Lee McElligott
- Jen Yuan
An NA team of 9th graders earned third place:
- Alexander Dusa
- Lincoln Hatch
- Leo Tang
- Ray Wang
The TEAMS competition tests students' ability to collaborate and share their knowledge in practical, creative ways to solve real-world engineering challenges. It typically has a division for grades 9-10 and a separate division for grades 11-12. While the two divisions had different tests this year as usual, the two divisions were joined for ranking purposes, which was an unconventional approach, said Dr. Robert Call, Upper School Physics Teacher and Co-Director of the Engineering, Design, and Innovation Fellows.
