TEAMS

Norfolk Academy excelled in this year's TEAMS competition, earning first place in all of Virginia on the exam, which tests engineering, math, science, and technology.

The Technology Student Association, a national, nonprofit association dedicated to students interested in science, technology, engineering, and math, sponsors the annual Test of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science. Students in grades 9-12 can compete. At this year's competition, 21 teams participated. And not only did NA take the top spot, it placed five teams in the top six.

TEAMS focuses on different themes each year. The 2024 TEAMS theme is Engineering Another World. At the event, teams are assigned four scenario topics with 10 questions each, answering a total of 40 questions.

The winning team was seniors Sam Bibeau, Julian Burke, Ann Gray Golpira, and Zoë Jones. 

  • State 3rd place: Anna Iacobucci '25, Aya Musselmani '25, Aashi Patel '25, Taylor Purcell '25
  • State 4th place: Michael Long '26, Quinn Parvin '26, Siya Patel '26, Sophia Yang '26 
  • State 5th place: Srivarun Hathwar '24, Gretchen Scott '24, Marin Soderberg '24, Areen Syed '24
  • State 6th place: Alexander Dusa '25, Lincoln Hatch '25, Leo Tang '25, Ray Wang '25

NA's top three teams all earned the right to compete in a national competition that will be held over the summer in Florida.
