Parents, grandparents, and alumni gathered around the Pit on Tuesday, June 6, for a Bulldog Community Celebration to thank Headmaster Dennis and Beth Manning for their service to our school and to wish them well in retirement.
The mood was festive and in the summer spirit: an ice cream truck
Board of Trustees President Ran Randolph noted that the school has advanced under Mr. Manning's leadership over 22 years in myriad ways: He attracted a world-class faculty, modernized the curriculum, transformed the campus, and tripled the endowment. Mr. Randolph added, “But to me, his most important accomplishment, which has been no small feat, has been to serve as the keeper of the flame, the defender of the ideal that honor, integrity, and character must remain at the forefront of everything that we do, even when challenging and painful."
Mr. Randolph gave Mr. Manning a replica of a portrait that will be placed, alongside a plaque, in the newly named Dennis G. Manning Lower School. Lower and Middle School Choruses performed; handshakes and hugs were abundant; and cameras came out to capture the moment. Thank you to all who came and made this day so festive!
