Ginger White begins in 2019-20 as Accounts Payable Manager.
Academic background:
B.A., Virginia Tech
Additional experience:
Mrs. White attended Norfolk Academy from first through ninth grades, then after high school earned her bachelor's degree in communication studies from Virginia Tech. She worked in the advertising and automotive fields before spending a few years as a full-time mom and then teaching for eight years at Loch Meadow Kindergarten in Norfolk. After that, she took a position with Welligent, Inc., where she was most recently the local office manager.
Tell us why you wanted to work in education:
My favorite job (until now!) was being a preschool teacher, and though I don’t work directly with our students here at NA, I love the school atmosphere. I think kids often bring out the best in adults!
What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy?
Everything! Top notch colleagues, the excitement the students bring, cheering on our sports teams, attending arts events… and LUNCH!
Norfolk Academy is unique because…
it is not just a school, it is truly a community. So many of the faculty and staff were students here and want to be here now because of that long-lasting connected-ness.
Last book read:
Where the Crawdads Sing (me and everyone else on the planet!)
What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working?
Go to the beach! The Outer Banks is my happy place, and I like nothing better than spending a day at the ocean, reading a book and looking for sea-treasures. I also enjoy watching almost any sport - especially when my Hokies are playing.
Favorite food?
I hide Reese’s cups in the vegetable drawer in my fridge.
A movie is being made about your life. Who would they cast to play you?
Erma Bombeck. Or Velma from Scooby Doo.
Fun fact students might find surprising:
Though I am a Hokie first, having a daughter at the University of Virginia has me yelling Go Hoos! more often then I ever thought I would - especially during basketball season. Never the day after Thanksgiving though!
“When I grow up, I want to be…”
I feel pretty lucky to be able to say that whatever I am at the moment is what I want to be.
