Warburton

Mrs. Warburton joins the Norfolk Academy family as a Lower School Reading Specialist. After graduating from UVA in 2001 with a B.A. in History and M.T. in Elementary Education, she began her career in Hanover County, as a first grade teacher and then as a reading specialist while finishing her M.Ed. in Reading Education. She moved to Henry County, to work as a reading specialist and then on to Fairfax County as a first grade teacher. While her husband was an active-duty service member in the U.S. Air Force, she was a literacy coach in Harnett County, North Carolina. Additionally, she has taught numerous reading education courses online as an adjunct instructor for UVA and served as an education consultant in various Virginia counties.

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator:
I have always enjoyed working with children - answering their questions, hearing their laughter, or seeing their joy when they have accomplished a goal. I realized in college that I could have a huge impact in the world as a primary school teacher. Reading education has been my passion as I believe that all children can succeed when they have a firm foundation of literacy skills and a love of reading!

I am overjoyed to join this wonderful community, where there is a passion for educating the whole child, a culture of positivity and problem solving, and an overwhelming desire to support each other.
