New Faculty Spotlight: Gray Grandy
Grandy

Gray Grandy begins in 2020-21 as a First Grade Teacher.

Academic background:
B.A., University of Virginia
M.Ed., University of Virginia Curry School of Education

Additional experience:
A native of Tallahassee, Florida, Mrs. Grandy comes to Norfolk Academy with many years of experience in the elementary school classroom. After earning a Master’s degree in teaching at UVA, she began in the Henrico County Public Schools as a first grade teacher. While at Harvie Elementary, she served as the First Grade Team Leader, was a science core content teacher and served on the Instructional Leadership Team. During her summers in the Richmond area, she taught study skills at the Collegiate School. In 2011, she moved to Hampton Roads to teach at the Williams School as a first grade teacher. She has been an instrumental part of the faculty at Williams for the past eight years, serving on school-wide committees for experiential learning, diversity, technology, strategic planning, admissions and retention, new teacher and professional development. 

Tell us why you wanted to become an educator: 
I love that it is a career that has an impact. Watching a child learn to read and being a part of that is extraordinarily special.

What most excites you about working at Norfolk Academy? 
Norfolk Academy is a teacher’s dream job! We are given the resources to help all children become the best version of themselves.

What do you like to do in your own time/when you’re not working? 
I love to travel! Learning about a new culture, seeing beautiful sights, and eating yummy food makes me happy. 

Favorite food? 
A fried oyster and crab claw seafood basket from a hole in the wall restaurant in Tallahassee, Florida!

A movie is being made about your life. Who would they cast to play you? 
Kerri Russell

Fun fact your students might find surprising: 
I am a HUGE college football fan! You can find me cheering on Florida State and UVA on any given Saturday.
