Middle School students served the Hampton Roads community on Monday, April 17, during PAWS for a Cause.
The day offered an opportunity to engage with a dozen different organizations throughout Hampton Roads to learn more about the work they do, the challenges they face, and the ways students can collaborate with them to create meaningful and sustainable change. As Middle School Director Jeff Boyd reminded students before they boarded buses to begin the day, this is just a first step; they'll be returning to these organizations in the months ahead.
Students were told to be curious and think about potential solutions to problems the organizations address, both short and long-term.
“We are going to engage and we are going to serve. Step outside yourself; you are a small part of a much larger community," said Teacher-Coach Blair Monaco, who helped organize the event.
The organizations students served:
- Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Brock Environmental Center
- The Chrysler Museum
- CROP Foundation
- EQUI-KIDS
- Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore
- ForKids
- Museum of Contemporary Art
- Navy Seal Foundation
- Norfolk Botanical Gardens
