A 2011 Norfolk Academy graduate, Emma Chandler rejoins the Academy family as an Upper School Math teacher. She also serves as an assistant coach in the volleyball program, where she excelled as a Bulldog.
Chandler taught for eight years at Virginia Beach's Ocean Lakes High School in the Math and Science Academy before returning to our NA family. She has bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Mary Washington, where she played volleyball, and an Ed.S. from Old Dominion University.
Why did you want to become a teacher?
I wanted to be a teacher because of all the positive influences I had from so many of my teachers at NA as well as my mom who is a retired math teacher of 37 years.
What excites you about Norfolk Academy?
What excites me most about NA is the relationships faculty builds with students and colleagues.
What's one fun fact about you students might find interesting?
A fun fact about me is that I have had a diverse group of pets including a leopard gecko and a white rabbit. Currently, I have a long-haired cat named Barney and a 55 gallon fish tank with 12 fish including a blue dwarf gourami named Rama.
