Ashlyn Kemp rejoins the Norfolk Academy family as a third grade teacher and coach in the volleyball program. She began her teaching career in 2017 with Chesapeake Public Schools, where she taught at both the elementary and middle school levels. After Covid, she transitioned to Virginia Beach Public Schools, where she taught middle and high school with a primary focus on English and helping students reach their full writing potential.
Why did you want to become a teacher?
I have always enjoyed working with kids, whether that was as a camp counselor or a beginner teacher for Breakthrough. There is no greater joy than having the power to create a safe and fun environment for students, one they are excited to return to, day after day.
What excites you about Norfolk Academy?
Having the opportunity to work with students who are excited to learn, and seeing so many familiar faces. Also, all the incredible traditions that take place here, which I now get to participate in as a member of the faculty.
What's one fun fact about you students might find interesting?
I think it is wonderfully interesting that they are now being taught by some of the incredible individuals who taught me when I was their age. This is such a full circle moment for me, and I love that.
