Among the many activities the Lower School Student Council Association takes part in are monthly fundraisers that help support Hampton Roads charitable organizations.

The November fundraiser benefiting the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore raised roughly $1,900. The SCA also shared facts about the Foodbank and its programs with classmates every day at lunch during the middle of the month, making the fundraiser a learning opportunity.

In October, all three divisions at Norfolk Academy supported ForKids, an organization that helps families working to escape homelessness. Students collected donations such as bathroom and kitchen supplies that families need. Among the donations: Napkins 19,640 napkins; 4,462 paper plates; 2,515 dryer sheets; and 291 bath towels.

In December, the SCA will raise funds for ForKids. These fundraisers also raise awareness about the organizations by letting students dress casually for a day. On December 15, the SCA will support a Holiday Colors Dress Down Day.

Third grade teacher Beth Clark, Anita Pozin, Director of Summer and Auxiliary Programs, and Ginger White, who works in the Business Office, serve as advisors for the Lower School SCA. They are grateful to all the parental support for these monthly fundraisers.

“The care and concern you and your children show to our extended community is both heartwarming and admirable," they said.

Lower School students vote each year to elect SCA representatives. Ishan '30 is the Lower School SCA President for 2023-24; Harper '30 is Secretary; Charles '31 is Fifth Grade Vice President; and Harrison '31 is Treasurer. In addition, more than 20 students serve as class representatives.
