From Bach's Brandenburg to Brazilian dance music, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet amazed Upper School students and faculty with their guitar prowess on April 15.

The Grammy-winning quartet, which has performed to rave reviews around the world, came to the Johnson Theater stage as the annual Joan and Tom Lyons performance through the school's partnership with the Virginia Arts Festival.

Tom Lyons, who passed away in 2022, served as a Norfolk Academy trustee for 17 years, a member of the Board's Executive Committee, and chair of the Building and Grounds Committee during a time of major construction projects that transformed the campus. Joan and Tom worked in partnership in their philanthropy and volunteer work, elevating Norfolk Academy and serving the causes of education and the arts throughout the region.

Joan attended the concert with her sons, Russell '08 and Tommy '07.

The guitar virtuosos of LA Quartet performed for the public on April 16, at Norfolk Academy as part of the Virginia Arts Festival, sponsored by the Richard S. Glasser Family Foundation.
