Kim Shamblee Named Newest Diane Wallace Honoree for Distinguished Teaching

Teacher-coach Kim Shamblee is Norfolk Academy's newest Wallace Honoree for Distinguished Teaching.

A graduate of DePauw University, where she studied Elementary Education and played volleyball, Shamblee has taught in grades 1-4 around the country and in Japan. She joined the Academy family in 2020 as a substitute teacher and joined our second grade team full-time the next year. She also coaches Junior Orange Volleyball and Lower School Forensics.

As Head of School Travis Larrabee said in announcing the award at Closing Faculty Meetings on June 6, Shamblee has created collaborative classrooms where students feel a true sense of belonging: “Step into her classroom, and you’ll see students fully engaged, whether they’re moving through a math scoot, discussing literature, collaborating on projects, or learning to write with purpose and confidence."

Started in 2022 and named after the legendary Diane Wallace, who taught fourth grade boys at NA for 53 years, the award fosters teaching growth and rewards faculty members who demonstrate her devotion. Previous winners are Scott Fowler, Taylor Winn, Evan Mitchell, and Reggie Cole.

Kim Shamblee teaches second grade and coaches Lower School Forensics and Middle School Volleyball.
