Upper School students on April 3 said hello and goodbye, or more accurately, until we meet again.
They met French Exchange friends from Saint Dominique in Neuilly-sur-Seine, which is just west of Paris. Saint Dominique's students will live and learn with Norfolk Academy students the next few weeks. Before they arrived on campus, they toured around Virginia and the Washington D.C. area with French Teacher Warren Warsaw, who is also leading day trips while the group is in Hampton Roads.
On the same day French students were welcomed, Norfolk Academy bid farewell to friends from Copernicus-Gymnasium, who came to NA in mid-March from Germany. The group arrived in Washington on March 15 and toured the Pentagon Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, and other landmarks. They arrived in Norfolk two days later and were introduced at Upper School Chapel on March 19. Among their trips while in Hampton Roads were tours of Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Tears were few when NA bid farewell on April 3, since German Exchange students will say hi again in May when they travel to Löningen. French Exchange students will travel at that time to Neuilly-sur-Seine.
This is the 51st year of Norfolk Academy's exchange partnership with Copernicus-Gymnasium. The French Exchange is in its third decade.
