Fourth Graders Wow With Chinese New Year Musical Performance

Fourth graders Angela and Ian celebrated Chinese New Year by serenading Lower School classmates with music on a zither.

What is a zither? It’s a traditional Chinese instrument with more than 20 strings and a few thousand years of history.

Lower School Music Teacher Becky Peterson organized the performance after several conversations with the students' parents. She asked if they could bring in the zither so second graders could see and hear it, supporting their study of musical instruments and Ancient China. Other classes wanted to listen in once they heard about the opportunity.

Ian and Angela not only performed, but also provided interesting observations about this unique instrument.
