Norfolk Academy's Fine Arts Department put on two outstanding productions as October came to a close.

On October 24, The Academy Players presented their Fall Play, The Frogs, in Johnson Theater.

As with most NA Fine Arts shows, The Frogs was free and open to all. Students in Middle School and Upper School received sneak peeks earlier in the week and laughed all the way through this modern-day comedy. The Frogs is an adaptation of Aristophanes' ancient Greek play of the same name. Both follow Dionysus, accompanied by his faithful servant Xanthias, as he travels to Hades to retrieve one of the great play writes in an attempt to create a new work of art that will help save Athenian Democracy.

Jason Kypros '96, a Drama Teacher at the school, directed the play. As he said in his Director's Note, “In the beginning of the play Dionysus exclaims that his solution to every problem is Art, and I agree. Art and artistic expression require a delightful synthesis of multiple disciplines, and in ancient Greek times it was this synthesis that gave us the foundations of western civilization. This should serve as a reminder that the creative process is one of the most valuable and potent abilities, we all possess. Directing this production has been very rewarding, and over the past seven weeks the cast and crew have worked together as a true ensemble, using their creative abilities to bring this ancient comedic tale to life for you today."

On October 30, the NA Dance Team put on its Fall Concert, Circadian Rhythms. From Broadway musicals to the Silent Film era to hip hop, dancers found the perfect rhythm.

Dance Master Elbert Watson and Assistant Director Suzy Gunn '01 directed the team, with help from Hip Hop Instructor Danielle Green.

The Dance Concert can still be viewed on the NA-TV Fine Arts channel.
