Norfolk Academy's fall athletics teams are off to strong starts.

Field hockey has earned the top ranking in the entire Hampton Roads region in the first few Virginian-Pilot polls, which include both public and private schools. In their season opener, the Bulldogs defeated First Colonial High School, a perennial state title contender in the public school ranks. A few days later the Bulldogs beat Cox High School, another public school power. In between those two tough contests, Norfolk Academy defeated Assumption High School, one of the top programs in Kentucky.

Over Labor Day weekend, Varsity Volleyball earned the Silver Bracket Championship at the 2024 Virginia Volleyball Showcase in Richmond. Shortly after the holiday, the Bulldogs defeated Kellam High School in straight sets, knocking the Knights from the top ranking in the Virginian-Pilot's poll. Those impressive showings vaulted NA up to fourth in the Pilot poll; the Bulldogs were previously unranked.

In addition, Varsity Football started the season 2-0, earning votes in the Pilot poll. In Sailing, Academy placed two boats in the top-eight at the initial regatta of the season, the VISA Maury/Granby Fleet Regatta. Two dozen teams were in the competition. Boys soccer played an exciting game in the debut of the Harvey L. Lindsay Jr. Soccer Complex, battling Trinity Episcopal, a power from Richmond, to a 0-0 tie. Days later, the Bulldogs defeated another Richmond-area power, St. Anne's-Belfield.

Girls tennis earned an exciting 5-4 victory over Cape Henry Collegiate on September 10.

That's hardly all the action going on around campus. Cross country starts its season later this month. Find full schedules for all varsity, JV, and Middle School teams on the Norfolk Academy website
