Faculty Honored for Teaching and Coaching Excellence

Norfolk Academy Graduation Exercises take time each year to honor excellence in teaching.

At the graduation of the Class of 2025, Waitzer awards, presented to veteran teachers, were given to Warren Warsaw (Upper School French), Caroline Bisi (Musical & Play Director, Middle School Drama), and Madelyn Kresinske (Lower School Librarian).

Recipients of the Massey Award, for teachers who have been at Norfolk Academy for no more than six years, were Sara Henry (3rd grade, Lower School), Rachel Thompson (Upper School Spanish), and Anna Meadows (Choral & Orchestra Director, Middle School Music).

Katie Roberts, a Lower School physical education teacher who is a head coach for Varsity Rowing and an assistant coach for swimming and cross country, won the Excellence in Coaching honor.

As the school year closed, teacher-coach Kim Shamblee was named Norfolk Academy's newest Wallace Honoree for Distinguished Teaching. She joined the Academy family in 2020 as a substitute teacher and joined our second grade team full-time the next year. She also coaches Junior Orange Volleyball and Lower School Forensics.

Started in 2022 and named after the legendary Diane Wallace, who taught fourth grade boys at NA for 53 years, the award fosters teaching growth and rewards faculty members who demonstrate her devotion. Previous winners are Scott Fowler, Taylor Winn, Evan Mitchell, and Reggie Cole.
