Congratulations to Emma Somers' 19, who won the women's division of the Shamrock Marathon on March 22!

Somers finished the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 57 minutes, 13 seconds, less than 7 minutes per mile, and won by more than 5 1/2 minutes. The Virginian-Pilot reported that 2,555 people started the marathon. Registration for all the distances sold out. 

At Norfolk Academy, Somers was a Literacy Fellow of the Batten Leadership Program. She also was a three-season student-athlete, running cross country in the fall, indoor track in the winter, and outdoor track in the spring.

After graduating from Norfolk Academy, Somers graduated from Johns Hopkins University, where she was a pentathlete.
