D.A. Taylor Tournament Raises Money For College Scholarships

D.A. Taylor was a stellar scholar and athlete at Norfolk Academy who also stood out because of his heart. He was a kind friend to everyone he met, making NA feel like a family.

Sadly, he passed away in 1995, at the age of 16, from meningococcal meningitis, but his legacy continues to live strong. Started by loved ones after his passing, the D.A. Taylor Charitable Foundation honors his spirit and and the good that he represented. It provides scholarships to students with the will to better themselves.

On December 6, NA hosted the annual D.A. Taylor Memorial Middle School Basketball Challenge, with proceeds supporting the foundation. Eighteen games were played across three gyms.

The D.A. Taylor Memorial Middle School Basketball Challenge brings teams from around Hampton Roads together to embody D.A.'s outstanding qualities. More important than winning are showing good sportsmanship; being a supportive teammate and spirited competitor; and having fun.

Some of D.A.'s family and friends who started the D.A. Taylor Charitable Foundation were on hand, thankful to all the student-athletes, coaches, referees, fans, and everyone who joined.
