Once a Bulldog, Always a Bulldog.
Norfolk Academy's Cornerstone Society, which celebrates alumni who graduated at least 50 years ago, reunited on campus on April 2, for fellowship and a fresh take on The American Revolution from award-winning author Andrew Lawler '79.
Lawler has written three previous nonfiction books and thousands of articles for publications like the New York Times, National Geographic, Science, and Archaeology. His newest offering, A Perfect Frenzy, unwraps the often surprising history of Lord Dunmore, who served as the Crown-appointed governor of Virginia from 1771-75.
In his talk, Lawler explored Dunmore's relationships with George Washington and his substantial impact on the City of Norfolk in the tumultuous period before the Revolution. His presentation also piqued the interest of some current students and history teachers eager to learn.
