Chazz Woodson '01 is the new head men's lacrosse coach at Hampton University, the school announced this week.
Mr. Woodson had been teaching and coaching at the high school level in Florida. He has also been an ambassador for the sport, helping it grow in economically-challenged areas as a board member for U.S. Lacrosse and owner and director for Sankofa Lacrosse Foundation.
Ed Woodson, Chazz's father, was a longtime teacher-coach at Norfolk Academy. Chazz attended NA for all but his senior year, when the family moved away.
Hall of Fame NA coach Tom Duquette helped teach Chazz lacrosse. Just last winter, Mr. Duquette and Neil Duffy joined Chazz when he organized a scrimmage under the Sankofa banner between Hampton and a diverse group of former collegiate athletes.
Chazz graduated from Brown University, then played Major League Lacrosse for 10 years, before becoming a teacher-coach.
